The successful applicant should have an appropriate teaching qualification and good experience of teaching capable students up to KS5 as well as skills in physical computing and robotics and a genuine enthusiasm to learn.
The department, opened in 2017, is a modern facility made up of a technology and computing suite, featuring two expert teaching rooms dedicated to educating students on computer science, robotics, technology and product design. The KS3 Computing curriculum is exciting and creative and successfully merges IT skills and Computer Science, including the teaching of intermediate level Python projects, E-Safety, cyber security, physical computing with micro-bits and Raspberry Pi’s, computational thinking and graphic design incorporating virtual reality.
The ideal candidate will have a willingness to build on the already close relationship between the Computing and Technology departments and the ability to become involved with product design and CAD/CAM.
The department has a range popular extra-curricular clubs and activities for different age groups and will need the applicant to actively organise and participate in these programmes such as the ‘Pi Club’. There are also several cyber security clubs throughout the year as well as a code club and a VEX robotics club. 16- 18-year-olds can join the Robotics Team, where we work closely with the Computing and Technology Departments in our neighbouring boys’ independent school. The department has recently purchased three VEX robotics kits, a set of programmable drones and class sets of the Raspberry Pi 400.
